Automatic steam control system for smokeless flaring.

Flarscan control can be used on all flare tips using steam as the smoke control medium, particularly where steam is at a premium.

The "Flarscan" system functions by measuring the radiant heat emitted by the flame and controlling the steam flow proportionally by means of a steam regulator.

Flame emissivity varies with the composition of the hydrocarbon gases being flared and generally increases with the increasing tendency of these gases to produce smoke. The steam/ air requirement for smokeless combusion also increase.
